Multicultural Solutions 2005 - 2009

The MCNT’s Multicultural Solutions Project has been funded under the Local Answers Initiative of the Stronger Families and Communities Strategy of the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) since 2005. In June 2008, the MCNT was offered an extension of funding from FaHCSIA for the Multicultural Solutions Project until the end of June 2009.

The Multicultural Solutions Project provides a place and a range of appropriate support services and referrals for families and children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in the northern suburbs.

The project aims to build positive family relationships, enable effective social interaction and facilitate linkages with service providers and government agencies. This project will continue to help families identify their needs and provide information on a range of health, social, legal and employment services.

The MCNT has been fortunate in enlisting the support of a number of capable Project Officers to implement the Multicultural Solutions Project. These Project Officers have maintained an extensive network for our clients, extended the outreach of the Project, and developed a number of initiatives and activities.

Multicultural Solutions Project Aims

From its inception in 2005, the Multicultural Solutions Project has evolved but remained committed to its expressed aims based on FaHCSIA’s Local Answers Initiative.

  • To inform families and communities about available support services;
  • To promote family and children’s wellbeing and provide resources and referrals;
  • To provide access to support within a safe, non-threatening environment;
  • To provide information and facilitate information sessions from other service providers at the MCNT Community Room; and
  • To provide opportunities for links to training, understanding of self-reliance and pathways to employment.

It is expected that families who will participate in the Multicultural Solutions Project will:

  • Build effective parenting and relationship skills;
  • Build opportunities and skills for social and economic self-reliance in families and communities so they deliver better services and meet unmet needs; and
  • Assist members of the community to get involved in community life through mentoring of young people.

The current Project Officer is formulating activities for the 2008-09 Multicultural Solutions Project. For more information on current and future activities, contact the Project Officer on (08) 8945 9122 or email: families@mcnt.org.au
