Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP)
What does it cost and who is eligible?
English language tuition through the AMEP is provided free of charge to the majority of clients. Free childcare for under school aged children can also be arranged while their parent is attending classes if required. Service providers have three months in which to provide free child care from registration if required to access classroom tuition.
The program is available to adult migrants (18 years old or over) for whom English is not the first language, and who have been assessed as not having functional English language skills.
The following categories of people are eligible:
• Newly-arrived migrants or humanitarian entrants from overseas;
• Migrants who arrived in Australia after 1 July 1999;
• Temporary residents who hold a gazetted visa class;
• People who have been granted permanent residence in Australia since July 1991.
If one these categories apply to you, you are entitled to English language classes.
AMEP students are supported by the latest teaching technologies.
